The character of Donegal Tweed

Donegal Tweed is recognisable by the presence of small flecks and fragments of coloured fibre distributed throughout the yarn. These irregular dots, known as neps, break up the uniformity of the base and create a rich, textured surface that is always slightly different.

It is precisely this irregularity that makes the fabric so recognisable. From a distance, the colour appears compact and deep; observing it up close, however, numerous chromatic variations emerge, adding movement and three-dimensionality to the wool.

Raglan construction
